the quote of the page Salvador Dali seduced many ladies, particularly American
ladies, but these seductions usually consisted of stripping them naked in his
apartment, frying a couple of eggs, putting them on the woman's shoulders and,
without a word, showing them the door music - some German please? (Nov 02) A couple of new records are on the market these days. I didn't
manage to listen to all of them, but some are quite interesting. What else is on the market and should not be missed out? Peter Gabriel's 'Up', the remastered Rolling Stones 'Forty Licks', Red Hot Chili Peppers and of course 'the best of ...' from U2. All of the above I listened already through. Remains the wishlist for next week
p. Red dragons without dungeons (Oct 02) Red Dragon got released in Taiwan. 2 weeks later than in the US, what a shame. Even it was early Sunday afternoon, the cinema was surprisingly empty. Anyhow we had most probably the most trafficked seats since the invention of cinematography. I might follow next time Kylies request to sit a bit closer to the screen. I always insists on the seats at the aisle, in order to stretch my legs. I read the book a few years ago. Must still be hidden in one of the boxes, which are stored in Germany. I couldn’t recall the whole story, which was good. I hate watching movies right after I read the book. Big stories are written in the last weeks about the movie and one ad is followed by the next. To make it short, I don’t know why. I was a bit disappointed. Of course the actors are excellent. Edward Norton, known from ‘American History X’, ‘The Score’ and ‘Fight Club’, was from my point of view in the role of the former FBI agent an excellent choice. Together with Ralph Finnes (‘Schindler’s List’, ‘The English Patient’) as the insane Dragon murderer and of course Sir Anthony Hopkins (the movies should be known) as Hannibal Lector created a prominent cast. For my taste the movie had not enough Hopkins (does it look like that I’m a big fan?). The other thing which annoyed me was the fact that the psychological basis was only fragmentarily presented. As far as I can remember in the book the agent is not the main character, but the culprit. Nevertheless, I might have expected too much. Something better, more thrilling than ‘The Silence of the Lambs’, which was not the case. Maybe the fact is, that ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ is a movie nearly impossible to beat. p.
heard a lot about the band before, but never listened to the music. now i recognise one or the other song. my favorite taiwanese band used to cover a couple of their songs. still could not figure out the meaning of LINKIN PARK. i'm too lazy to search in the endless websites and discussion platforms. jon gave the cd to me as a present. he thought that i should share his enthusiastic feelings. i took the album with me to work. i'm used to work on the computer while listening to music. especially as my desk is too close to one of the noisiest copy machines in Taiwan. what should i say. after the second run i switched to continuous play. the type of music could be named rap rock. other critics say, that a grouping can not be done. i like the combination of different music styles. but i have to agree that rap is dominant. the music is angry and sad at the same time. i'm sure that there will be more people above 35, who will not like the music. no wonder that AMAZON has a special adult music collection. for me it will be an album, which will not gather dust. there is just one thing, which annoys me, beside the origin of the band name. i could still not figure out the real title 18. what's the meaning of KYUR4 TH ICH?
the movie weekend (7th October 2002) It started all with our attempt to see a movie on Friday night. Unfortunately we arrived in a bad time. Most of the films just started and the rest was crap. A walk to Blockbuster is in such moments always a good alternative. Let's see what we got. "The
Royal Tenebaums"
(had to be abandoned after 40 minutes. the DVD had a scratch and I felt asleep) Absolute highlight was "a beautiful mind". A biography of John Forbes Nash Jr. a brilliant mathematician, according to experts, who suffers from a split personality disorder. Has nothing to do with the nutty professor. Russell Crowe packed his gladiator muscles under woollen suits, coats, straitjacket and finally dinner jacket during the Nobel Price award. The movie was captivating. In our case, not knowing the story, it took us half way through to movie to realise that something is not right with the professor. The performance of the actors is great. Not following this years Oscar award and haven't seen "Training Day", I must assume that Denzel Washington played the role of his life to receive the Oscar, and not Crowe. All in all a must see movie. Within the package of other movies we had 2 times suspense with panicking Jodi Foster and counting Sandra Bullock. In "murder by numbers" the suspect is known from the beginning, which takes quite some from the story and downgrade it to just ok. If you want to see one of the best credit trailers (names at the beginning or end of the movie), I have ever seen, you have to see "Panic Room". Furthermore the film has only a few actors, and can be compared with a modern Alfred Hitchcock. Was a good choice to rent. Furthermore 2 times a -robthegoldanddonotgetcaught- movie. Where "Heist" with Gene Hackman and Danny de Vito was from my point of view the better one. Might be that my poor English was the reason. I certainly can understand the American slang better than the Irish dialect. Where American beauty (saw it twice and felt twice asleep), decent criminal Kevin Spacey tried to be funny, "Heist" tricked the spectator from the start to the end. There was one or two U-turns too many, but an entertaining story.
A short review of a not so important movie We have seen xXx last week. Not the kind of movie that you´ve been thinking. It´s a modern 007, lacking quite a bit of the English "charm". Their is no Moneypenny, but a Q and a big M, who is not wearing dresses (played by Samuel Jackson). The story is ok, lots of action. Unfortunately we were late and got one of the shaving seats. Was difficult to follow the frames. If you like red Corvettes, don´t watch the movie. Overall it´s entertainment without any ambition to keep you thinking during and after the film. We had fun. On the other hand, we declared the evening as travel guidance. The main location was Prague, which we will visit when being in Europe. p.
